“Nobody sees a flower, really
- it is so small -
we haven’t time, and to see takes time”

I am fascinated with negative shapes / space and have always been
concerned with involving the viewer with more than the surface on
an object. I play with the interaction of texture, color and light,
but unlike other artists, I am not concerned with set parameters.
I like to color outside the lines, to use a geometric shape as a
starting point, and go into the surrounding space.
My current works have no boundaries
or frames in an attempt to make each piece go beyond its immediate
existence and allow the viewer to mentally enter into, around
it and out again. I create a painted shape and apply a surface
(canvas) and then try to integrate that surface into the painted
shape. To use the threadness / woveness of the canvas as a medium
that becomes part of the painting and not just a surface on which
to apply pigment.
The painted shape might be
passing through, but you are not locked into the piece. There
is an in and out. If successful, the trip through will be slow
and deliberate.
